The Latona Before and After School Program is currently operating full-day childcare service in support of Seattle Public Schools Remote Learning. We operate 6 groups of ~10 kids each onsite at the John Stanford International School. Our hours of operation are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
Frequently Asked Questions: What policies and procedures are in place in response to COVID-19? LSA follows the guidance provided by Washington State Department of Health and Seattle/King County Public Health Childcare Health Team as minimum safety and health precautions. Current guidance can be found here (DOH) and here (S/KCPH). In several instances we have modified these procedures to be more protective of student and staff health and to better align with the needs of the program. In general, we currently operate 6 groups of approximately 10 students. The groups are isolated from one another, with dedicated classroom space, and no materials/resources shared between them. Each group consists of peers and classmates, one dedicated group leader and a support staff. We engage in regular, enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures, and do not allow outside access to classroom spaces (i.e. parents or visitors in the classroom space)
Will LSA offer afterschool childcare when school reopens? Yes. The sole mission of LSA is to provide excellent childcare to the students and families of John Stanford International School. While school reopening plans unfold, so too will our plans to provide before and/or afterschool childcare. At this time, the exact form and structure of our program offerings remain uncertain, but we are certain that we will work with SPS and JSIS to continue to provide childcare services to support this community.
Will LSA provide full-day support for students in remote learning when school reopens for K-1 (scheduled for 3/1/21)? Yes. We expect to be able to offer full-day support for students in remote learning through the entire 2020-2021 school year. As we share space within JSIS, the program location and structure may change, but we are committed to providing remote learning support and work closely with JSIS to ensure continuitiy in service.
What is the full-day remote learning program like?
Program hours of operation are 800am -400pm,
Group size is restricted to 10 students daily, up to 16 students per week (due to part-time enrollment)
We adhere to current Public Health Guidance for childcare center operation (see above).
Each group will have 1 primary staff person, and 1 support person
We operate 6 separate and isolated groups, each with their own classroom space and supplies
We support remote learning to the greatest extent possible, but also encourage:
a minimum of 20 minutes of outside play every 3 hours
snacks/meal times every 3 hours
"brain-breaks" for students to engage in non-academic activities
time for socialization and play away from iPad/laptop screens
experiential learning opportunities, group activities and games, social-emotional routines/practices, and more.
We work closely with JSIS to ensure that students are ready and present for their required remote learning sessions
What is the tuition cost of full-day childcare supporting remote learning? Our currently monthly rates are as follows:
2 days per week, $850 per month
3 days per week, $950 per month
4 days per week, $1050 per month
5 days per week, $1150 per month
We are not able to project monthly tuition rates for Before/After school childcare at this time.
Where can I find more information about school reopening? The Seattle Public School website Return to In-Person FAQ is the best source of information, and is generally the most up to date information that LSA will have as well.
When will enrollment for 2021-2022 Schoolyear begin? We hope to be able to return to a normal enrollment schedule for the 2021-2022 schoolyear. We do not know what our capacity will be, or tuition rates, but assuming that school reopening occurs, and we are able to return to normal before /afterschool operations, the following dates will be observed:
Enrollment for the 2021-2022 schoolyear begins the first Monday in May for students/families that are currently enrolled in childcare for the 2020-2021 schoolyear (known as "Returning Enrollment"). You will have 2 weeks to reply to a survey and indicate your expected childcare needs for the following September.
Enrollment begins on the 3rd Monday of May for students/families that are new to JSIS, new to LSA, or not currently enrolled in childcare for the 2020-2021 schoolyear. This includes Kindergarteners. We will prioritize students/families that have historical relationships (i.e. prior to the 2020-2021 schoolyear) in the enrollment process. Because we utilize shared space, and cannot be certain of our capacity, we cannot guarantee that families that had childcare at LSA prior to 2020-2021 will be able to secure enrollment for the 2021-2022 schoolyear.
Please note that no waitlist or enrollment requests for the up-coming schoolyear will be accepted or confirmed prior to the first Monday in May for Returning Enrollment or the 3rd Monday in May for New Enrollment
Will LSA offer a Summer Program in 2021? We expect to be able to offer a 6 week Summer Program from July 12th to August 20th. The form, structure and capacity of the program remains to be determined. More information will be available 2/12/21.
What is LSA's Federal Tax ID (EIN)? Our Federal Tax ID (EIN) is 91-1301451
