The Latona Before and After School Program is currently operating childcare service in support of Seattle Public Schools Hybrid Model. We operate 5 groups of ~10 kids each onsite at the John Stanford International School. Starting 4/5 our hours of operation are 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

Frequently Asked Questions: (last updated 4/1/21) What policies and procedures are in place in response to COVID-19? LSA follows the guidance provided by Washington State Department of Health and Seattle/King County Public Health Childcare Health Team as minimum safety and health precautions. Current guidance can be found here (DOH) and here (S/KCPH). In several instances we have modified these procedures to be more protective of student and staff health and to better align with the needs of the program. Each of LSAs groups are isolated from one another, with dedicated classroom space, and no materials/resources shared between them. Each group consists of peers and classmates, one dedicated group leader and a support staff. We engage in regular, enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures, and do not allow outside access to classroom spaces (i.e. parents or visitors in the classroom space)
REOPENING: Will LSA provide support for students in 1/2-day in-person instruction at JSIS? Yes- We will provide care for the remote learning portion of the day, and afterschool programming. We are currently only able to offer this service to students and families that are already enrolled in our program. We expect to be able to expand this service to additional families seeking care in the coming days and weeks. As more information becomes available, our plan will develop, and this page will be updated.
REOPENING: Will LSA provide support for students in full-day remote learning after 4/5? No- we are not able to provide support to families that elect to stay in the 100% remote learning group.
REOPENING: What will 1/2-day Remote Learning program look like?
Program hours of operation are 745am -430pm. We offer 1/2 day support for remote learning, and an (optional) Afterschool Program for families that need childcare after 2:30 pm.
If your child attends AM instruction at JSIS, drop them off at the school prior to instruction. LSA staff will retrieve them at 1045 prior to Lunch and Recess.
If your child attends PM instruction at JSIS, drop them off at LSA, and LSA staff will escort them to class at 1145 after Recess and Lunch.
Both AM and PM groups will be combined in Afterschool Care, from 230 - 430pm
LSA Group size is restricted to ~10 students. While we are not able to maintain the same cohorts as JSIS, we will maintain consistent, small groups that (if possible) are grade specific.
What about school breaks and Holidays? Our program is open every day, Monday - Friday, including school breaks, except for the following days:
September 7 Labor Day November 11 Veterans Day Holiday November 26, 27 Thanksgiving Holiday December 24-25 Winter Holiday December 30- January 1 New Years’ Holiday January 18 Martin Luther King Holiday February 15 Presidents’ Day Holiday May 31 Memorial Day Holiday
LSA will also be closed the last Friday of each month to allow our staff an opportunity to engage in required professional development, staff meetings and planning. In the event of closure due to weather, licensing mandate, or as the result of public health issue, you will be notified as soon as possible via email. Where can I find more information about school reopening? The Seattle Public School website Return to In-Person FAQ is the best source of information and is the most up to date information that LSA will have as well.
When will enrollment for 2021-2022 Schoolyear begin? We hope to be able to return to a normal enrollment schedule for the 2021-2022 schoolyear. We do not know what our capacity will be, or tuition rates, but assuming that full-day instruction resumes at JSIS, and that we are able to return to normal before /afterschool operations, the following dates will be observed:
Enrollment for the 2021-2022 schoolyear begins the first Monday in May for students/families that are currently enrolled in childcare for the 2020-2021 schoolyear (known as "Returning Enrollment"). You will have 2 weeks to reply to a survey and indicate your expected childcare needs for the following September.
Enrollment begins on the 3rd Monday of May for students/families that are new to JSIS, new to LSA, or not currently enrolled in childcare for the 2020-2021 schoolyear. This includes Kindergarteners. We will prioritize students/families that have historical relationships (i.e. prior to the 2020-2021 schoolyear) in the enrollment process. Because we utilize shared space, and cannot be certain of our capacity, we cannot guarantee that families that had childcare at LSA prior to 2020-2021 will be able to secure enrollment for the 2021-2022 schoolyear.
Please note that no waitlist or enrollment requests for the up-coming schoolyear will be accepted or confirmed prior to the first Monday in May for Returning Enrollment or the 3rd Monday in May for New Enrollment
The mission of LSA is to create a learning environment, in partnership with parents and JSIS, which respects and honors the whole child, fosters social skill development and growth, and provides experiential learning opportunities in a safe, engaging and inclusive manner. Latona School Associates (LSA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating the Latona Before and After School Childcare at John Stanford International School.
