GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION
When is the LSA Summer Program? LSA will offer a 6-week Summer Program from 7/6 to 8/13. The program will be closed on 7/5 in observance of the July 4th Holiday. What will the Summer Program be like? Each week will have a theme that anchors the activities, visitors, and fieldtrips of the week. We will maintain small groups of students (8-10), isolated from one another. Depending on future public health guidance we may be able to have visiting specialists bring/present enrichment activities to the small groups of LSA students. Additionally, depending on future public health guidance, we may be able to transport the larger group (maintaining separation between small groups) via charter bus to outdoor fieldtrip locations. Each Group will be staffed by one primary staff person, and one support staff person, and overseen by the Program Manager and Executive Director. What are the hours of operation? Summer Program hours of operation will be 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday. What will tuition be? Weekly tuition for the Summer Program is $325 per week. We collect $100 non-refundable deposit per week at the time of registration, which is applied to your total balance. When does sign-up begin? Priority enrollment (for families with students currently attending the LSA program) will start on 2/22. This is a 1-week window to get enrolled before enrollment opens to the larger LSA community. Enrollment for families with a historical relationship with LSA (i.e. students that attended the program pre-COVID) can enroll starting 3/1. Finally, enrollment will open-up to the entire JSIS community on 3/8. All these dates and more can be found on the LSA Event Calendar here. How will enrollment/registration work? Each family will be sent a link to the registration form (online) depending on thier prioritization. The program will be first-come, first-served based on the receipt of enrollment request and deposit payment. Please note that completing the request for enrollment does not secure a childcare spot for your child. How will payment work? You will be invoiced a deposit of $100 per week when I confirm receipt of your enrollment request. You are registered (i.e. confirmed to have a spot each requested week) when we receive your deposit payment (billed through SmartCare). If you do not pay right away, the deposits from summer will be charged on your March statement. If we receive and confirm your enrollment request after 2/26, the deposit will be on your April statement. If you are signed up for autopay, the summer deposit amount will be automatically deducted from your chosen payment method on the 10th (along with your March or April tuition). The remaining balance for summer (less the deposit) will be on your June statement, due on June 10th. Who can come to the LSA Summer Program? Any student that is registered and attending JSIS, or just finished fifth grade at JSIS can attend the LSA Summer Program. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate incoming Kindergarteners or non-JSIS siblings or family members this year. Please let us know if you have any questions at admin@latonaschoolassociates.com |
2021 SUMMER DATES/THEMES
Summer Week 1: World of Music (7/6 - 7/9) Starting the summer off with a strong beat! We will have instrument making, and film scoring activities, dance lessons, and jam sessions this week. Good fortune willing, LSA will host live performances/demonstrations by visiting musicians and artists, and maybe even tour a local radio station. Summer Week 2: Kitchen Science (7/12 - 7/16) Ever wondered where marshmallows come from? Why are raspberries flavored things are blue? There is so much to do and learn right here in the LSA Kitchen! We will be talking about food science and healthy eating, while we explore the the world of cuisine. Many cooking projects will commence, including homemade snacks and treats (maybe even marshmallows), culminating with a (possible) visit to a local restaurant for a behind the scenes tour. Summer Week 3: Built Environment (7/19 - 7/23) This week we do a deep dive into the built environment, studying structures built for and by our fellow humans. We will design our own dream schools, do some team build challenges, learn about bridges and different architectural periods/styles, and take walking trips to explore nearby architecture, ala UW campus and/or Gasworks Park. It is a builders dream come true! Summer Week 4: Natural History (7/26 - 7/30) In the peak of Summer we shall explore the natural world around us with an eye toward the past. Using resources from the Burke Museum, we will learn about what Western Washington was like before it was called Western Washington, and why the Ballard Locks exist and why we have so many hills in Seattle. Join us as we explore our city and region! Summer Week 5: World Games (8/2 - 8/6) If all goes according to plan, this should be the final week of the (delayed) 2020 Summer Olympics. We will celebrate the games of the world by learning to play them! By my count there are 16 Summer Olympic sports that may be feasible/appropriate for LSA - this week we will recreate the experience for your future Olympian, complete with a medal ceremony. Summer Week 6: Arts Extravaganza (8/9 - 8/13) This week we dive into creative visual arts - Drawing, Painting, Photography and Sculpture. A (possible) fieldtrip to the Olympic Sculpture Park will surely inspire, and each group will cap the week by hosting a Group Gallery Walk to showcase our pieces. |
